Summary of FACRL Activities at the 2019 FLA Conference

09 Jul 2019 11:14 AM | Jaime Goldman

FACRL was once again very involved in the annual Florida Library Association (FLA) Conference.  The 2019 FLA Conference was held May 15-17, 2019 at the DoubleTree at Universal, Orlando, FL.  FACRL events, presentations, and sponsored events included:

The FACRL Sponsored Coffee Break was a welcomed sight prior to the opening general session and the FACRL Board had the opportunity to network with FACRL members and FLA attendees and to promote our upcoming 2019 FACRL Conference.

The FACRL organized presentation, Even the Odds: Libraries Solving the Student Textbook Problemwas held on Thursday, May 16th at 9:30am, and included speakers Rebecca Donlan (Florida Gulf Coast University Library Services), Amy Filiatreau (Eugene M. and Christine E. Lynn Library, Lynn University), Peggy Glatthaar (Florida Gulf Coast University Library Services), and Danielle Rosenthal (Florida Gulf Coast University Library Services).  Librarians from two Florida universities showed how they are providing learning resources for free or dramatically reduced cost, providing access to traditional course texts through reserve collections and creating OER. Funding, faculty incentives, identifying textbooks, maintaining the collection, and marketing the program were discussed.

The FACRL Board Meeting was held on Thursday, May 16th at 11:00am.  Minutes from that meeting can be found here.  At the board meeting, the FACRL board of directors rolled over to the newly elected board and we all thanked outgoing FACRL President Rebecca Donlan for her work and service.
